Arshad Nadeem Opts Out of Neeraj Chopra Classic to Focus on Asian Athletics Championships
Pakistan’s Olympic hero Arshad Nadeem has respectfully declined an invitation from India’s Neeraj Chopra to compete in the upcoming Neeraj Chopra Classic javelin event. Scheduled to take place in Bengaluru on May 24. Nadeem cited a clash with his training and travel plans for the Asian Athletics Championships in South Korea as the reason for his decision.
In a statement, Nadeem shared his gratitude toward Chopra, saying, “I’m thankful for Neeraj’s invitation, but the event falls close to my departure for Korea on May 22. I have been systematizing competently for the Asian Races, which will take place from 27 May to 31 May in Gumi.”
Neeraj Chopra, who is organizing the first edition of the javelin event. He had earlier mentioned during a media interaction. That he had extended an invitation to Nadeem and was awaiting his response after the athlete consulted with his coaching team.
Arshad Nadeem made headlines at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Aeshad delivered a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters, securing the gold medal. The indian player Chopra ended with the silver, throwing 89.45 meters.
The Neeraj Chopra Classic promises a high-profile lineup. With international stars such as Anderson Peters (two-time world champion from Grenada), Thomas Röhler (2016 Olympic gold medalist from Germany), Julius Yego (2015 World Champion and 2016 Olympic silver medalist from Kenya), and Curtis Thompson (current season leader from the USA with 87.76 meters) all set to participate.

The event has been awarded Category A status by World Athletics. Marking it as a significant international competition event that will be jointly organized by Neeraj Chopra, JSW Sports. The Athletics Federation of India (AFI), and World Athletics. They are bringing together elite international and Indian javelin throwers for a showcase on Indian ground.
