According to the airline and local media sources, an Air India aircraft carrying 244 persons crashed in the North-West Indian city of Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Television broadcasting captured the thick smoke scenes rising from the accident site, located close to the Ahmedabad airport.
Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, Director General of Director General of the Director General of Civil Aviation, confirmed to the Associated Press that the aircraft, Air India Flight AI 171, A residential neighborhood called Meghani Nagar.
